Happy birthday, sweet boy! Today you are EIGHT and I simply cannot wrap my mind around this fact. Someone once told me that the days are long but the years are short, and that has never felt more true than right now.
It’s been a big year for you. You started SECOND grade at Lancaster Christian Academy, and you LOVE it. You are taking piano lessons with Mr. Jonathan, and you also became a really, really, really great swimmer this year!
You love reading, spending time with your friends, playing outside, traveling, Legos (so. many. Legos. in our house!), cooking and music, especially anything by Zach Williams.
You had a big highlight this year when Ms. Trisha Yearwood invited you to cook with her in her house! I’m gonna work hard at making that happen. You also got to go with me to interview Mr. Jay DeMarcus, which you thought was SUPER cool (it was).
We once again got to go to Pennsylvania twice this year, and we also surprised you and your sister with a trip to Florida! Honestly, that moment when we got to tell you that we were driving to Florida will go down in history as one of my favorite parenting moments ever.
It’s been a year of BIG change for you also, and you’ve handled it so well. In December, we sold our house, and moved in with Mr. Steve and Miss Joyce, for what we thought would be one week. Seven weeks later, we finally got to move into our new house. Whew! I know you miss the big front yard we had at our old house, but you LOVE all the space in our new house too, including a bonus room and your very own playroom (which you share with your sister, of course).
I left my Big Job just last week, mostly because of you and your sister. It was becoming harder and harder to balance time with my family and a job, and these days with you and Marella feel fleeting. I’m still going to be working, still telling people’s stories (my favorite part of my career), just in a different capacity.
After Daddy and I decided that my Big Job was no longer working for our family, you showed me something you wrote in your writing journal. It said, “I am praying for my mom because she is really stressed! She has an interview! I want her to have fun.”
Yes, son. Me. too.
You continue to impress me with your kind heart and compassionate spirit. Lately you’ve been loving when you get to make me a snack or lunch all by yourself, which just shows me how considerate you are.
This birthday has been a bit of a disappointment for you, but you’ve handled it so well. We had to cancel both your Grown-Up Birthday Party and our spring break trip to Gatlinburg, where you planned on spending your birthday at the indoor water park, all because of coronavirus. I cried right along with you when we told you we had to cancel both plans, but you handled it so well. I’m so proud of you.
I believe great things for your future, Reagan. Jesus and I talk about you every day, throughout the day. I am so proud of the young man you are becoming. I love your heart for Jesus, your (most of the time) care for your sister, and your inquisitive spirit.
Keep following Jesus, sweet boy. I promise He will never, ever leave you. I love you to the moon and back times a million. I always have, and I always will.
Love you forever,
Mommy
