Hi! I’m so glad you found my website.
A few things about me:
I married my best friend, Johnny, on April 9, 2011. We went to the same church, sang in the same choir, and had been friends for a long time, when in the winter of 2010, we both started dreaming about each other at night. True story. One year later, we were married, and one year after that, we had our son, John ‘Reagan’ Patterson Thompson.
I’m the mother of two. In addition to Reagan, we adopted our little girl, Marella Hope Grace Thompson, from India on Sept. 1, 2016, after almost four years of planning and preparing. She turned two one month after we brought her home. The process of adopting, and realizing the depth of the orphan crisis, has made me a fierce advocate for adoption, foster care, and “looking after orphans and widows in their distress.” (James 1:27)
I love to save money. I’m the person you see in the grocery store with the big coupon binder. Some might call me cheap, but I prefer frugal — it just sounds better, don’t you think? Either way, the highlight of my week might be seeing how much money I saved after I went grocery shopping.
I love food. No, I mean, I love food. I love making food for people, I love food magazines, I love cooking shows, and I love going out to eat. I might be cheap, er, frugal, but I still remember a $100+ meal my husband and I had for his birthday two years ago, and it was worth every. single. penny.
I live in Tennessee, but Pennsylvania is home. I’ve lived in Nashville since 1999, but I will always call the Keystone state home. There’s something about the culture, the food (for real), the people that feels most like home to me — not to mention that my sister’s house is without a doubt my favorite place on earth to be, and she lives in PA.
I love my friends. Want to make me weepy? Get me to start talking about my friends, and I will inevitably get a bit teary. I have the BEST friends in the world. I have a very diverse group of friends, and I love them all. I love sitting one-on-one getting to hear people’s life stories. I love going out to dinner with friends. I love my friends I can text with just a few words, and they get me. If wealth was measured in friends, I’d be filthy rich.
I love my job. I get paid to write. When I was growing up, being a writer was the thing I really wanted the most in life, but I never told anyone, and never pursued it, because it was too lofty, too idealistic, too risky. So I went down a bunch of other trails until a writing job literally landed in my lap, and since then I’ve never looked back. Most of my writing is country music and interviewing artists and other famous people (I am forever one degree away from Kevin Bacon), but I’ve also written a bit about travel, health, and various other topics.
I love to travel. I’ve been to seven different countries (so far), and several states. Money spent traveling is never a waste to me. My husband and I have a dream of driving across the United States with our children someday. Being in different surrounding, and different cultures, opens my eyes to so many things. If I could spend the majority of my life visiting other cities and countries, I would. Maybe someday …
I love Jesus. It’s really that simple. I love Jesus. I hope my life always points to Him.
So that’s it! If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll email me. Let’s stay in touch!
